We come to a point in our lives where existing isn’t enough. We come to a point when we escape the busyness of the world around us only to find that we have to face ourselves. Sometimes this can be a daunting hour.
Without realizing, time changes us in ways that we do not take time to evaluate. People and experience shape us daily in an insurmountable way. It is when we face time alone that these changes are surfaced. What are we thinking about? Are we anxious to be with people and to drone out our thoughts? Who are we missing? What are we missing? Where are we headed next?
I believe it is important in life to come to a point where spending time alone is a reward… not a task. Solidarity is a gift in this fast world. We should be content slow down.
We can come to a point where the steady, rhythmic in-and-out of our breathing can be soothing, where the noise can be quieted, and where we can find comfort in our thoughts.
What is it that is most important to us?
What are we living for?
What will we be thinking about when all else fades for a brief moment?
