I used to have the mindset that fighting for radical change meant fighting to move further away from old Christian principles into a new postmodern world in which I hate to see evolving... a place where there is no absolute truth... a place where what YOU choose is what truth is over the truth of GOD.
Then I sit back and think about Martin Luther King Jr. and his radical fight for equality. How come I never thought about it before? This fight changed the course of history in a way that no one expected.
I've started to become radically minded in the sight of social justice. When I think of human trafficking and the 27 million people enslaved in the world today (whether it be slave labor, child soldiers, or sex slaves) I think "what on earth can I, just me, change this?"
Unfortunately, that's what all of us think and then no progress is made.
When I look back to 1787 and the African Slave Trade, NO one believed that anything could end this trade because it was so ingrained and accepted in their culture. However, a dozen men decided to fight for the end, and within their lifetimes (it only took 20 years) they saw it end.
I believe that if enough people get fired up about this cause and COMMIT to a lifetime of change and justice, with the strength of Christ, we can see the end to human trafficking.
However, if we do not commit fully, there will be no end.
I'm beginning to think that I want to spend my life (especially using my Photo Journalism degree) spreading awareness and bringing justice to human trafficking... I want to see an END to the ill treatment of God's people.
